In this article, we are going to discuss the five most important features that dehumidifiers should possess. Obviously, some of the features are less important for industrial dehumidifiers and some of more important for swimming pool dehumidifiers. But these features are required for all kinds of dehumidification units, despite the type of dehumidifier.
But this article is more about the five important features of industrial dehumidifiers since this website is dedicated to one. You can find similar articles for home dehumidifiers and pool dehumidifiers on our other websites.
Five Features That An Industrial Dehumidifier Should Have
If you are buying an industrial dehumidifier then it is always good to check if the following features are available in it or not.
Strong Casing
Industrial dehumidifier designed to be used in places like construction sites, warehouses, oilfield stations etc. It is always subject to rough use. Hence casing of dehumidification units should be designed accordingly.
Most popular is steel casing with powder coating paint and anti-corrosion treatment for the inner wall. In recent trends, high-quality plastic casing is also very much in use. This type of casing is not only strong but also makes the unit lighter and free from corrosion.
Hygrometer And Humidistat
A commercial dehumidifier should have a built-in hygrometer to show the current room humidity level and a humidistat that senses the humidity level of intake air and provides information to the dehumidifier control so that it can switch on or off accordingly.
Once the user sets a required humidity level, then any industrial dehumidifier units should run till the humidity reduces to that set point, and after that, it should switch off automatically. Also, if the humidity rises above the set point, then the unit should start automatically. All this an industrial dehumidifier system can do with the help of a humidistat.
Condensation Pump
Most industrial portable dehumidifiers or non-portable ones also do not have a built-in condensate tank. It is not practical from a design aspect to accommodate a condensate tank along with a heavy compressor and coils. Hence of dehumidifiers are provided with a hose connection to drain out condensate water.
And the user needs to ensure that the hose has a proper slope so that condensate water flows easily. But at every site it is not possible to give that slob to the hose pipe. In some of the sites unit is installed on the floor, and a drainage connection is made to the connection point on the ceiling. In such a condition, if the unit has a built-in condensate pump, then it can push water.
Automatic Defrost
Refrigerant-based industrial dehumidification systems are not suitable for use in low-temperature areas. If it is used then ice forms on its coil, which reduces the performance of the unit.
Hence unit should have an automatic defrost system, which on demand should go into defrost mode to remove ice on the coil and improve the performance of the unit.
Compressor & Coils
Many dehumidifier manufacturers still use non-environmentally friendly gas compressors. You need to make sure that you get a unit with a compressor that uses environmentally friendly refrigerant gases like R134a, R407, or R410, etc. Also Evaporator and condenser coils should be made up of copper tubes.
Other Features For The Pool Dehumidifier
There are many other features that a dehumidifier should have. If this is so, then it will be icing on the cake.
Filter
If the unit, especially the pool dehumidifier, has a built-in filter at the inlet, then it will be good for the occupant and the machine itself.
Fan Speed Adjustment
The machine should have at least two fan speed settings.
On/off Timer
This feature is useful when you want to run the dehumidifier for a specific period only.
Tank full auto switch off
This feature is very important to have in dehumidifiers with a built-in condensate tank. It enables the unit to automatically switch off if the condensate tank is full to avoid overflow of water.
