In this article, we are going to discuss the classification of dehumidifiers briefly. Dehumidification systems are classified based on various factors. The major factors are the working principle, applications, and mounting of dehumidifiers. If we consider the working principle, it is classified into refrigerant, desiccant & pettier dehumidifier. Based on mounting, it is mainly classified into portable, ceiling, and wall mount dehumidifiers. On the basis of application, it is classified into home, swimming pool, and industrial dehumidifier. We will provide information about all these types in brief.
Types Of Dehumidifiers: Based On Working Principle
As mentioned before, based on working principles, dehumidifier systems are classified into three different types. Most dehumidifiers use a refrigerant-based working principle. Units using these principles are called refrigerant dehumidifiers or condensation dehumidifiers. Such a type of unit consists of an evaporator & condenser coil with a compressor. The unit takes wet, humid air and cools it till due point where humidity condenses into a physical form of water, which is accumulated in a tank, and dry air is made available for use. Most dehumidification systems work on the condensation principle for dehumidification.
The limitation of a condensation dehumidifier is that in cold conditions, it can not achieve dehumidification since ice will form on the coils. A desiccant dehumidifier is used for a moisture free environment. Whereas a condensation dehumidifier is unable to do dehumidification. Hence desiccant dehumidifier is used to achieve dehumidification at a lower temperature. For example, to reduce humidity in a cold room. A desiccant dehumidifier consists of a rotating wheel made up of desiccant like silica gel, which has the inherent property to absorb humidity from air. When humid air passes over this desiccant wheel, it absorbs humidity from the air. This is also called an absorption dehumidifier.
A Peltier dehumidifier works on the Peltier effect, which states that a temperature difference is created between two metals joined to each other when a voltage is applied to them. One metal part becomes hot while the other becomes cold, which is used to condense humidity. This type of dehumidifier has a limitation on extraction capacity.
Dehumidifier Classification: On The Basis Of Applications
Based on applications, dehumidifiers are classified into various types like marine dehumidifier, cold room dehumidifier, warehouse dehumidifier etc. All these applications mainly come under three categories. These are home, swimming pool & industrial dehumidifiers.
High humidity at homes creates a bad smell, rapid growth of mould and mites, patches on the wall, condensation on window glass, etc. Also, high humidity causes health issues for occupants. Hence, to keep humidity at a proper level, we need to use floor mount dehumidifiers, which are portable in nature.
Many industrial processes need low low-humidity environment during the process and to store process goods. A small rise in humidity during the manufacturing of drugs might give an undesirable result. Many laboratories, data centers, and electrical room needs low low-humidity environment. Industrial dehumidifiers are designed to withstand rough conditions at industrial sites. These dehumidifiers are potable, floor mount, or wall mount dehumidifiers.
An indoor room swimming pool is always a bastion of high humidity. The rate of evaporation and hence air humidity increases with an increase in indoor pool water temperature and the surface area swimming pool. And this high humidity creates lots of damage to the pool room infrastructure. Depending on the size of the pool wall mount dehumidifier or a ceiling mount dehumidifier. For a small residential pool, we recommend a wall mount dehumidifier, but for a commercial pool, we need a duct dehumidifier of commercial grade.
Floor, Ceiling, or Wall Mount Dehumidifier?
The above questions are common ones when it comes to buying a dehumidifier. On the basis of the mounting of the dehumidifier, it is classified into the above three types. Wall mount dehumidifiers are preferred when we have to dehumidify a small space and there is limited space. A floor mount dehumidifier is generally used for dehumidification of large spaces such as a warehouse. Portable dehumidifiers are floor-mounted units by default but it is movable. Ceiling suspended units are generally used in large spaces like big swimming pools, warehouses, etc.
